2020 Summer Camp Update
May 27, 2020
Dear Campers (and Families),
We love having you at camp! Since 1941, camp has been the highlight of the year at Jumonville. There is nothing like the joy of worshiping, playing, and having adventures with you. However, in the current pandemic, we cannot guarantee your safety. For that reason, our Board of Directors made the heartbreaking decision to cancel camp this summer.
We know that this is a devastating decision. Please know that we have prayed, and cried, and talked to experts, and agonized over this decision. Your health and safety are our first priority. We have poured over guidelines from experts; like the Centers for Disease Control, the State of Pennsylvania, and the American Camp Association. We made plans to make camp safe. It required masks. It required social distancing. It required changing almost everything. In the end, it would not have felt or looked much like camp. We want to be able to greet you with hugs and high-fives and fist bumps, we want to sing and yell and jump and dance. We want to play gaga and nine square and basketball with you. We want to send you down the zip line and for a rush on the king swing. Everything would have been different.
As restrictions are modified over time, we will be able to open again, this fall, and welcome you back. We are making plans for a series of weekend events beginning in September. We are holding all of you in our hearts and prayers, and hope you are doing the same for us. Through all of this, we trust that God is in control.
“He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.” -Daniel 2:21
If you were registered for this summer, you and your family have some options:
1. Roll over your paid fees to next summer. This option helps us keep moving forward. Campers who choose this option will receive priority registration next year and an exclusive t-shirt this summer.
2. Receive a full refund.
3. Donate your fees to Jumonville operations. This, too, helps us in preparation for next summer.
4. Roll your fees to a fall camp weekend. The fall weekend schedule is as follows:
September 11-13: High School Adventure, Middle School Sampler & Elementary Sports
September 18-20: High School Sports
September 25-27: Middle School Adventure & Elementary Sampler
October 2-4: Family and Friends Weekend
October 9-11: High School Sampler, Middle School Sports & Elementary Adventure
You will receive a phone call from us within the next five business days to answer any questions you may have and discuss your choice.
While we are resilient, we need your help now more than ever. We rely on the summer camp revenue to fund our mission and ministry. Please consider giving to camp, as you are able. You may make a one-time gift through our donation page, or consider a monthly gift through joining our Sustainer’s Club.
We share with you the disappointment of having to cancel camp. We also share in the hope that we will be back next summer, better than ever! 2021 will be our 80th Anniversary – and we are planning for a fun-omenal (er, phenomenal) summer!
Let the countdown begin – 382 days until summer camp! We can’t wait to see you!
Grace and Peace,
Heather A. Withrow Sandra L. Stewart
