Jumonville Welcomes New President
Friends of Jumonville,
This past summer, Larry Beatty informed the Jumonville Board that, after 37 years of ministry on the mountaintop, it was time for Jumonville to find its next President. In response, the Board entered into a nationwide search for Larry’s successor. The process has been bathed in prayer and has spanned months of outreach, communication, review of applicants, and intensive interviews. The President Search Committee and the Board & Staff Development Committee, collectively have invested hundreds of hours in seeking God’s chosen candidate to assume this essential leadership role heading into this next season of ministry for Jumonville.
I am pleased to announce that, in a wonderful spirit of unity, the Jumonville Board has approved the appointment of Heather Withrow as the new President of Jumonville. Heather comes to us most recently from Glacier Camp in Lakeside, Montana. Originally hailing from Elkins, West Virginia, Heather answered God’s call to camping ministry upon her graduation from West Virginia University, having earned her degree in Recreation and Parks Management with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation. Now with more than twenty years in the camping and retreat ministry, Heather brings with her a wealth of knowledge, experience, and wisdom. Heather is active in the American Camp Association and the National Conference Committee of the United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministry. She will also participate in Jumonville’s membership with both the Christian Camp and Conference Association as well as the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability.
Upon her appointment as President, Heather commented, “I am honored to be joining the Jumonville team. I am eager to continue the rich history of ministry on the mountain; and to explore all the ways in which we can use our resources to point people to Christ throughout western Pennsylvania and beyond.”
Heather and her husband, Shawn, who is a graphic designer, will be moving to Jumonville in the next couple of weeks to begin their Jumonville ministry. This will not be their first experience with Jumonville, though, as Heather has brought retreat groups to Jumonville, and has for years considered Jumonville to be a wonderful ministry. They are anxious to begin building relationships with the Jumonville and beyond. Your prayers during this exciting time would be greatly appreciated.
Larry Beatty noted, “I am thrilled with the choice of Heather to be Jumonville’s next President and I heartily endorse her. I will do all that I can to support her in this time of transition.”
Please mark Sunday, May 5, 2019 on your calendars. Our annual Spring Dinner will be held in Jumonville’s Asbury Dining Hall that evening at 5:30. That day you will have the opportunity for a meet-and-greet with Heather and Shawn. We also will be celebrating the more than 37 years of dedicated ministry and service of Larry and Jaye Beatty. Please watch for ways that you can be involved. It will be a wonderful day that you do not want to miss!
